Water farce! FCA abandons new base after building dries up

The City watchdog has had to abandon its swanky new offices after the water supply to the building failed.

Hundreds of staff at the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) were sent home on Wednesday from the regulator’s headquarters on the edge of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London, following reports there was no water in the building’s toilets.

“The building was shut down and staff sent home because there was no water supply,” said one source affected by the evacuation. “It’s ironic because it’s been raining all afternoon and there’s no water. All the staff think it’s one of those environmentally friendly buildings that recycles rainwater.”

The FCA only started relocating 3,000 staff to the new base at 12 Endeavour Square in the summer.
